A former Manchester City midfielder, Joey Barton, has urged England manager, Gareth Southgate to resign following their exit from the ongoing 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Barton, who coaches Bristol Rovers in English Football League League 1, believes it is time for Southgate to quit his managerial role of the England’s team following his team’s exit from two World Cups and a European Championship.
The Bristol Rovers coach in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Monday, said, “Can’t believe Southgate hasn’t resigned yet. That’s two World Cups and a home European Championship we could/should have won.
“Stop rewarding failure. Got to go. Time to hire somebody who can win.”
The Three Lions bowed out from the tournament in the quarter-final after conceding a 2-1 lose to France over the weekend.
Southgate is England’s most successful manager since Sir Alf Ramsay, overseeing 52 wins, 15 defeats and as many draws.
