Everton could sign Nigeria’s striker, Elijah Adebayo, who impressed for Luton Town in the Premier League, scoring 10 goals in 27 games.
Despite Luton’s relegation, Adebayo’s performance garnered interest. Everton’s manager views him as a crucial addition, seeking to boost their attack after a tough season.
Everton’s manager, Sean Dyche, is a significant admirer of Elijah Adebayo, viewing him as a crucial addition to his plans at Goodison Park.
The Toffees had a tough season, finishing 15th with 40 points from 38 games, scoring 40 goals and conceding 51, despite having one of the best defensive performances of the league season.
Adebayo’s physicality and ability to hold up play could complement Everton’s style. His presence could benefit Dominic Calvert-Lewin and provide tactical flexibility.
Adebayo has also been linked with Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.
Elijah Adebayo began his football journey with Fulham at the under-9 level and gained experience through loan spells with Slough Town and Bognor Regis Town.
In January 2018, he moved on loan to Cheltenham Town. On July 7, 2018, he joined Swindon Town in League Two on a season-long loan before moving to Stevenage on January 31, 2019.
After being released by Fulham at the end of the 2018–19 season, he signed with Walsall in June 2019.
On February 1, 2021, Elijah Adebayo joined Luton Town in the Championship for an undisclosed fee. He made a strong debut, scoring in a 1–1 draw against Millwall on February 23, 2021.
Adebayo has expressed interest in playing for the Super Eagles, adding emotional weight to his decision.
“I would like to play for Nigeria,” he affirmed, emphasising the profound impact it would have on his mother’s happiness and pride if he turned out for the Super Eagles.
On the possibility of playing for England, Adebayo affirmed that “It would be a case of whichever comes first.”
Finidi George is unlikely to consider Elijah Adebayo for the Super Eagles, given the rich array of attacking talent available, including Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface.
However, Adebayo’s profile could be a useful alternative for the team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin if needed.
