The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor (retd), has officially retired from the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
According to The PUNCH, he bowed out at a ceremony held at the Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja, on Friday.
PUNCH METRO reported that top officers who are senior to the newly appointed service chiefs were given a deadline to voluntarily retire from duty, per instructions from Defence Headquarters.
In a memo with reference number DHQ/I5/PLANS/801/13 obtained by newsmen,the DHQ directed all officers with seniority on commission above that of Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 39 to submit their applications for voluntary retirement from service with immediate effect.
Irabor was appointed CDS in January 2021 and retired alongside others on June 19, following the appointment of new service chiefs by President Bola Tinubu.
