The former governor of Oyo State, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo has passed away just days before celebrating his 90th birthday.
His family confirmed his death in a statement released on Sunday, expressing both sorrow and gratitude for his remarkable life.
The statement, titled Victor Olunloyo Goes Home, was signed by Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the Olunloyo family.
It read: “With a heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, mathematician, engineer, and renowned technocrat, a few days before his 90th birthday.”
Dr. Olunloyo was widely respected for his extensive contributions to education and governance.
He served as the first Rector of both Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic, in addition to holding several other key positions throughout his career. He was also recognized as the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife.
“His long record of service to the nation and humanity is a source of pride to his family and associates,” the statement continued.
“While we come to grips with this devastating event, the Olunloyo family appreciates the understanding of the press and the public as they begin arrangements for a befitting burial.”
The statement concluded with a note of spiritual comfort: “Even from everlasting to everlasting, He is God.”
