The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council has vowed to protect the rights and promote the inclusiveness of all Nigerians, particularly Persons with Disabilities.
According to The PUNCH, the Deputy Director of Consumer and Business Education at FCCPC, Nwafor Anthony made this commitment on Monday in Abuja during a policy roundtable on financial inclusion for PWDs.
The event was organized by the Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation.
Highlighting the council’s dedication, Anthony said, “The council is already running several awareness campaigns to promote inclusivity and ensure an accommodating environment where persons with special needs can access all services without discrimination. We are resolute in our mission to ensure that Nigerians’ rights are upheld.”
Anthony also commended CADEF’s ongoing efforts to advance inclusivity, promising that the FCCPC will continue to collaborate with the foundation. “We will keep supporting initiatives that advocate for the rights of all Nigerians,” he stated.
Professor Chiso Ndukwe-Okafor, CADEF’s Executive Director, addressed the pressing need to overcome the obstacles PWDs face in accessing digital financial services. She emphasized that the roundtable was convened to facilitate meaningful discussions among stakeholders.
“We need to urgently address the barriers PWDs encounter both online and offline,” Ndukwe-Okafor noted. She attributed the challenges to a lack of proper infrastructure and insufficient policy support, pointing out that these issues demand coordinated efforts.
Ndukwe-Okafor added, “The recommendations from today’s meeting will serve as a blueprint for future strategies aimed at ensuring all persons with disabilities can access financial services efficiently and comfortably.”
