Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Adesola Olusade, said on Tuesday that an inquiry into the immediate and remote causes of the four-story structure collapse on plot 965, Dape, Life Camp, in the FCT’s Gwarinpa District, has begun.
Olusade, who confirmed the revelation during an on-the-spot investigation of the fallen structure, said anyone found responsible would face criminal charges.
The permanent secretary of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Nkechi Isa, blamed the building collapse on unprofessional and unwholesome practises, stating that the developer was served with a stop work notice, which he ignored.
Adesola stated that the applicable building codes would be used to penalise anyone found to be at fault.
He said,” This site is permanently closed; a caveat will be placed on the plot so that some efforts are not made either by way of sale or any other transactions. We will also identify and establish culpability whether for officials of the administration or by external forces.”
Olusade instructed the formation of a commission to study the remote and immediate causes of the building collapse, to be chaired by FCDA Executive Secretary Engr Hadi Ahmad.
The rescue mission has been halted, according to FEMA Director-General Dr. Abbas Idriss.
“Based on the information from those rescued, nobody is left in the ground. We have gone around; there is no presence of any human being.”
