The Federal Government, under its Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, has slated April 25, 2025, for the commissioning of CNG distribution and refueling stations across six strategic locations in Nigeria.
These include Enugu, the Federal Capital Territory, Lokoja in Kogi State, Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Ado Ekiti in Ekiti State, and Abia State.
In addition, the Federal Ministry of Youths is set to flag off the first phase of the tricycle deployment programme on April 15, marking a significant milestone in the CNG roll-out plan.
According to a statement issued by Kenechukwu Chukwu, Technical Assistant on Stakeholder Management and Public Engagement for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, a $6 million Arete Mini-LNG Project Investment Agreement will be signed on April 4, 2025.
The project is aimed at boosting the reach of CNG into Northern Nigeria. A presidential press briefing is also expected to hold on the same day to update citizens on the progress of the CNG Initiative.
The statement further disclosed, “On April 11, 2025, there’ll be a groundbreaking agreement between PCNGI and Public Sector Unions on CNG Conversions to be delivered to 200,000 public sector employees.”
Additionally, CNG-powered buses will be officially handed over to Nigerian Army personnel on May 5, while the commencement of training programmes for officers in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police is scheduled for May 19.
“In May, there’ll autogas framework operationalization to enable seamless supply at discounted inlet prices for Auto CNG Sector in collaboration with GACN and NGML,” the statement stated.
