An early morning fire on Tuesday wreaked havoc on the Bayan Tasha Market in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, destroying goods and properties worth millions of naira.
According to The PUNCH, the fire, which began around 2 a.m., razed approximately 50 shops and kiosks before firefighters arrived to contain the blaze.
Their swift response, following an urgent distress call, prevented the fire from spreading to nearby residential areas.
During an assessment visit to the scene, Mohammed Goje, the Executive Director of the State Emergency Management Agency, sympathized with affected traders and promised to document the losses.
While the cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities are investigating to prevent future occurrences.
