A fire outbreak has swept through the Oko Baba plank market in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State, affecting both the market and surrounding shanties.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, alongside the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, are currently on the scene to control the blaze and carry out a search and rescue operation.
Adedeji Olalekan, a social media user who goes by the handle #Stylomedia on X, alerted the public to the incident, stating, “Okobaba Street is on fire now, all the shanties are burning.”
Confirming the situation, LASEMA spokesperson Nosa Okunbor, in a brief WhatsApp message, said, “LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire Unit, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service [are] in search and rescue operation at Oko Baba plank market by Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta.”
Emergency responders are continuing their efforts to manage the situation, with the extent of the damage yet to be fully determined.
