The first group of 410 pilgrims from Kebbi State, who participated in the 2024 Hajj in Saudi Arabia, have returned home safely.
The pilgrims, hailing from Arewa and Jega Local Government Areas, arrived at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi, at 9:42 p.m. on Saturday, aboard a Flynas Airline A330-900 Airbus.
Their return signifies the beginning of the journey home for Nigerian pilgrims from the Holy Land, with Kebbi State leading the way as the first state to initiate airlift operations for the Hajj a month ago.
Addressing journalists shortly after the pilgrims’ arrival, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba Bena, the Chairman of the 12-member reception committee and the State Head of Civil Service, expressed his satisfaction with the smooth execution of the Hajj operation.
“A total of 410 pilgrims came back to Kebbi tonight (Saturday, June 22, 2024). As you can see, they are in good health and were evacuated together with their luggage from Saudi Arabia back home,” he said.
He extended gratitude to Almighty Allah and praised the state’s compassionate Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, for his dedication and love for the people, particularly in religious matters.
“He has high regard for religious matters as a basic foundation for a decent and prosperous society. The Governor has been at the forefront of ensuring the smooth conduct and success of the Hajj operation, which we are celebrating today,” Alhaji Bena remarked.
He also noted Kebbi’s commendable role in starting both the outward journey to Hajj 2024 and the return airlift, lauding Governor Idris for his leadership and seeking prayers for his continued success and wisdom.
The Chairman concluded by announcing that the second batch of pilgrims was expected to arrive at the airport on Sunday.
