The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that five individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries following an explosion that occurred at a CCTV dealer’s shop in Ikeja.
The victims, who were either inside or near the premises at the time of the blast, have been rescued and are currently receiving medical treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the explosion took place around 6:35 p.m. on Friday at Kodesho Street in the bustling Computer Village area of Ikeja.
“The scene of the explosion and adjoining areas were immediately taken over and cordoned off by operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the command, the Mobile Police Detachment and Conventional Police Teams,” Hundeyin stated.
He added that EOD experts had thoroughly swept the area to eliminate any potential hazards and to ensure the safety of the public while a detailed investigation is carried out to uncover the cause of the explosion.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, was reported to have swiftly arrived at the scene for an immediate assessment shortly after the incident.
“While investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion and other factors that might have caused the incident, the CP urges Lagos residents to remain calm and not to panic.
“The public are enjoined to go about their lawful engagements and businesses peacefully without fear or apprehension, as the scene of the explosion and the adjoining area have been rendered safe and secured,” he assured.
Reiterating the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, the spokesperson emphasized that efforts are ongoing to maintain peace and stability across the state.
