No fewer than 1,004,262 driver’s licences were processed and produced by the Federal Road Safety Corps in 2022.
The agency disclosed this in its 2022 statistical report sighted by The PUNCH.
According to the report, 140,000 driver’s licences were produced in the first quarter of 2022; 333,752 in Q2; 272,324 in Q3; and 258,186 in Q4.
According to the FRSC, the driver’s licence serves the owner in several ways, beyond being a driving document, explaining that the licence also serves as a security document accepted by institutions.
However, the FRSC has continued to decry the poor turnout in the collection of processed driver’s licences, saying the process has been simplified.
When asked why drivers feel reluctant to collect their driver’s licence, the corps spokesperson, Bisi Kazeem, said “Some of these drivers are not active on the road while few are complacent until they get arrested.
“We send a text to them to remind them of the need to collect their licence. We also make announcements and sometimes organise special patrols targeted at driver licence violations that make some go for the licences compulsorily.”
