President Bola Tinubu has declared Nigeria’s support for the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, an initiative spearheaded by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
He made this known via his X handle on Tuesday.
The president affirmed that the alliance aligns with his administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” emphasising its role in tackling hunger and poverty through international cooperation.
“This initiative brings together governments, international organizations, and civil society to address both the immediate and structural causes of hunger and poverty. Nigeria stands ready to work with global partners to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly eradicating hunger and poverty, while improving the lives of our citizens,” Tinubu stated.
He further called for reforms within the United Nations Security Council, advocating for a more inclusive structure that reflects global diversity. Tinubu expressed Nigeria’s readiness to take on a leadership role representing Africa.
Highlighting economic disparities, Tinubu underscored the need for a reformed global taxation system to promote equitable development and bridge the North-South divide.
“We must strive for a fairer global financial system that ensures no region is left behind,” he said.
