For this year’s 66th Annual Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy has added a brand new category, Best African Music Performance.
Also other categories added are “Best Pop Dance Recording” and “Best Alternative Jazz Album”.
The Recording Academy’s Board of Trustees recently met for its semiannual meeting, at which the new categories and changes were approved.
In addition, the non-classical producer of the year and non-classical songwriter of the year awards will be consolidated into the general field.
The CEO of the Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr., released a statement saying the news categories accurately reflect the wide variety of important musical subgenres.
“The Recording Academy is proud to announce these latest Category changes to our Awards process. These changes reflect our commitment to actively listen and respond to the feedback from our music community, accurately represent a diverse range of relevant musical genres, and stay aligned with the ever-evolving musical landscape,” Harvey Mason jr. said
