A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, Benedict Akika, was reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday night at his residence in Olorunda, Lagelu Local Government Area.
According to The PUNCH, sources said heavily armed gunmen stormed Akika’s home, firing shots into the air to intimidate residents and passersby.
A family member, who requested anonymity, disclosed that Akika was spending time with his family when the assailants arrived and forcibly took him away.
“There were sporadic gunshots aimed at scaring residents and anyone nearby. They later whisked him away to an unknown location,” the source stated.
Another source revealed that Akika had recently supported widows and the less privileged by distributing work tools worth millions of naira at his Olorunda residence.
At the time of reporting, efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for confirmation had not been successful.
