The suspended Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, Mrs Amina Audu, and her driver have been kidbapped by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Monday morning.
According to The PUNCH, Audu, an eyewitness disclosed Audu was passing through Naka/Makurdi Road when gunmen ambushed them at Tyolaha Ahume along Naka/Makurdi Road.
A community source who preferred anonymity revealed that the armed men shot at the moving car which forced the car to a stop and the gunmen instantly whisked them away.
“The incident happened this morning close to Tyolaha Ahume village along Naka/Makurdi Road when gunmen ambushed a moving car and shot at it until it stopped.
“Immediately, the gunmen swooped on a woman and the driver and ran into the bush,” the local said.
One of her colleagues, the suspended chairman of Ado Local Government, James Oche was said to have confirmed the abduction of the woman.
He said, “It is true. I learnt she was kidnapped alongside her driver and they (kidnappers) are yet to make contact with anyone.”
Efforts to get the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, were not successful as she did not take her calls.
She also did not respond to text messages sent to her as of the time of filing this report.
Contacted, the Security Adviser to the State Governor, Joseph Har, said “I don’t have details, you can call the PPRO.”
