An unidentified police detail attached to the new generation bank at Cassette bus stop, Coker Aguda, in the Surulere area of Lagos State was killed by gunmen.
According to The Punch, businesses closed early in the area for the safety of lives and property following the unfortunate incident on Wednesday.
The policeman was shot in the neck at close range by the gunmen when he exited the bank situated at Enitan Street in the area.
He was confirmed dead at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital where he was taken to after he had first been taken to the Randle General Hospital.
It was learnt that the gunmen made away with his pistol after shooting him.
The Coker Aguda LCDA authorities are yet to make any official statement on the incident.
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the attack, adding that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Hundeyin said, “He was guarding a bank but the incident didn’t happen at the bank; he had left and was going somewhere inside a tricycle.
“He actually hired the tricycle and was the only passenger. He was attacked, shot and his service pistol taken away. It happened in the afternoon around 3 pm. He later died in the night. Nobody has been arrested but efforts are on to that end.”
