A 47-year-old woman identified as Esther Adekanla, popularly known as Hadiza Nakowa was allegedly murdered by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Dutse, Jigawa State on Thursday.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident.
A resident told newsmen that Esther Adekanla, a food vendor, was last seen on February 12, 2024, raising suspicions among her neighbors when attempts to reach her proved futile.
He said the incident happened on Thursday evening and was reported to the police.
Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson said detectives from the Dutse Division were mobilized and they forced entry into her residence, revealing a gruesome scene.
He said, “the lifeless body of Esther Adekanla was found in the sitting room, surrounded by visible cuts on her head and neck.
“Also, her 11-year-old daughter, Christiana Michael, was discovered alive but unconscious in a locked store with head injuries.”
Shiisu explained that both victims were rushed to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital for treatment.
He noted that Esther Adekanla was confirmed dead by a medical doctor, and her body was subsequently transferred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for autopsy.
The State police commissioner, AT Abdullahi, however, directed a thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and made to face the wrath of law
Abdullahi emphasized that anyone found guilty would be prosecuted accordingly.
