A 19-year-old Nigerian Nail painter from Plateau State, Lisha Dachor, has successfully completed her bid to establish a new Guinness World Record for the longest nail painting marathon by an individual.
During the event, known as a “nail-a-thon,” Dachor reportedly painted over 4,000 artificial nails in a span of 72 hours.
In a post shared on her Facebook page, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “Breaking barriers and setting records! Honored to have achieved a new milestone in the world of nail art with the longest marathon painting of artificial nails by an individual. Grateful for the journey and the incredible support.”
Dachor announced her intention to take on this challenge from April 28 to May 1 at Odilin’s Event Centre, located behind the National Library in Jos, the capital of Plateau State. She also mentioned that free transportation to and from the venue would be provided for attendees.
In an interview with the BBC, Dachor shared her aspiration to use this record attempt as a means to shed a positive light on Plateau State.
“People judge the Plateau by its cover. Apart from the ethnic issues we have, Plateau is a beautiful place. I got support from all ethnic groups while I embarked on this attempt,” she said.
She also undertook the challenge with the aim of changing the narrative surrounding teen mothers, like herself, in society.
“I want to give people hope, especially single mothers, because many people don’t think we have anything to offer,” she told the BBC.
With the event now concluded, Dachor is awaiting the review of her attempt by the Guinness World Records, pending the submission of evidence documenting her marathon nail-painting session.
The conclusion of the “nail-a-thon” has been met with celebration and commendation from various individuals, particularly on social media.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, also expressed his pride in Dachor’s “record-breaking spirit,” posting on his X.com handle to congratulate her.
“I proudly join in celebrating Lisha Seleme Dachor’s record-breaking spirit of a young talent from Plateau State on her Guinness World Record attempt for the longest nail art marathon. Your determination aligns with my administration’s policy objectives for the youth and inspires us all,” he wrote.
In April, Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya set a new Guinness World Record for the longest marathon chess session, playing for an impressive 60 hours. In the same month, Nigerian social media entrepreneur Clara Kronborg broke the Guinness World Record for the longest interview, with an average time of 55 hours and 24 seconds. She surpassed the previous record held by Rob Oliver from the United States, who interviewed for 37 hours and 44 minutes in 2022.
