Some operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, sustained injuries on Friday after an attack by individuals believed to be herdsmen in Akure, the state capital.
According to The PUNCH, the corps had apprehended some cows accused of destroying farmlands in the Osi and Igboba Communities within the North Local Government Area earlier that day.
According to a source, the Amotekun officers were transporting the seized cows, totaling approximately 120, to the state headquarters of the Amotekun Command in Akure.
The herders confronted them on the Akure-Ado expressway and launched an attack.
The source recounted, “As they were taking the arrested cows to Amotekun headquarters in Akure, on reaching the Sango area (of Akure), the herders came out with dangerous weapons and attacked the officers to prevent them from taking the cows away.”
A viral video depicted some of the corps officers firing shots into the air to disperse the attackers, while the injured officers were quickly loaded into the Amotekun Hilux van.
Upon contact, the Public Relations Officer of Ondo Amotekun, Jimoh Adeniken, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation had commenced.
