A traditional ruler in Lagos State has sparked a fresh wave of controversy surrounding the incarceration of popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, alleging that the socialite did not serve his sentence behind bars but was instead lodged in a private apartment facilitated by corrupt officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
According to The PUNCH, the Baale of Kirikiri Town, Chief Babalola Shabi, also known as “Baale No-Nonsense,” speaking at a town hall meeting hosted by the Lagos State Police Command as part of the National Police Week activities claimed that Bobrisky smuggled eight Automated Teller Machine cards into the Kirikiri custodial facility.
According to him, the cards were used to channel about N35 million through Point of Sale operators in the community to allegedly bribe correctional officers for preferential treatment.
“The public thought Bobrisky was serving his sentence in Kirikiri, but the truth is that he was staying comfortably in a private residence outside the prison,” Shabi alleged.
“It was a well-orchestrated operation involving some officials within the system.”
Chief Shabi further revealed that he played a significant role in unearthing the alleged scam by summoning all POS operators in the area to his palace, a move that led to the involvement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“I invited the POS agents, and from there, the EFCC was able to trace the suspicious transactions and follow the money trail,” he said.
The community leader disclosed that the correctional officers allegedly involved in the scheme approached POS vendors to withdraw cash using ATM.
