The Nigerian baker who went viral for establishing an ‘Agege Bread’ bakery in Canada, Wale Oladapo, has revealed that the initiative was inspired by his wife’s pregnancy craving.
Oladapo who is married with three kids made the revelation during a Facebook live interview with The PUNCH on Thursday.
The Nigerian-Canadian hails from Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State. He was born in Ibadan, grew up in Abeokuta and engaged in the National Youth Service Corps in Lagos state.
His family bread business shot up his fame on social media, especially, on TikTok after a video of the Mayor of Brampton, where he lived, visited his bakery.
Rabiu also mentioned that while he was in Nigeria, he had 13 years experience working with a leading telecommunications company before relocating to Canada with his family in 2016.
The bread factory business started in 2018 and has grown to have branches in Canada. Along with the bakery, they also have a retail store where their bread is being sold to consumers who want hot, fresh bread.
Although, after relocating, Rabiu got a role in a leading telecommunications company in Canada because of his background in that industry, he decided to produce Agege bread after his wife, who was pregnant at that time began craving bread.
He said, “There was no Nigerian bakery in the whole of Ontario… we were eating bread close to Nigerian bread in taste.
“So we thought that, if we have our own bread people will appreciate it.
“My wife was pregnant then and craving for bread, that’s where it all started.”
