The absence of resident doctors at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital in Kwara State has crippled activities as consultants are overwhelmed by the number of patients.
Resident doctors are to resume work on Monday after the expiration of the five days warning strike.
According to a report by Daily Post, only consultants are now seeing patients in the absence of the striking resident doctors.
Also, the number of surgical operations has reduced as the few consultants come to rescue on critical cases.
However, the hospital has not admitted new patients since the commencement of the five days warning strike.
Patients are also pleading with the striking doctors to resume work for the sake of their welfare.
The chairman of the resident doctors association, UITH branch, Dr Ijaya Mutalib, said “we are complying fully with the directive of the national body of the association.
“We hope to resume on Monday after the expiration of the five-day warning strike.”
Meanwhile, Resident Doctors Association nationwide embarked on a five day warning strike to compel the government to meet its demands.
