A middle aged man identified as Baby Face, has reportedly strangulated his girlfriend to death while also setting himself ablaze.
According to The PUNCH, the incident was said to have occurred in Kom Kom area of Oyigbo in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
At the weekend when the incident occurred, Baby Face was said to have brought her lover over to his residence in Kom Kom, a heavily populated suburb in Oyigbo on the outskirts of Port Harcourt.
According to a local source, the man probed his girlfriend and sought an answer for an alleged affair she was having with another man, resulting in a heated quarrel between the couple.
According to an eyewitness who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the girl’s explanation was not enough, so Baby Face fell on her, pummeled her, and reportedly strangled her.
He tried to disguise his deeds by setting fire to the building, but he was trapped in the inferno and also gave up the ghost.
He went on to say that the man, realizing what he had done, set fire to the apartment and died, along with the remains of the girl, whose identification had yet to be determined at the time of reporting this story.
The source said, “The incident happened at the weekend in Kom-Kom, Oyigbo. A young boy who bears the name Babe Face had an altercation with her girlfriend over issues that had to do with another man.
“In the process, they had an argument. The boy pounced on this girl and beat her severely and strangled her in the process.
“After killing the girl, he set his apartment ablaze as a move to cover his track but was caught up in the inferno. He was burnt to death with the girl’s corpse inside the house.”
The incident has been confirmed by the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko.
