Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, has given insight into how his team beat the Banyana Banyana of South Africa to the 2024 Olympic Games ticket on Tuesday.
Waldrum gave this explanation after the game.
The Super Falcons held the South Africans to a 0-0 stalemate on their own soil in the return leg after beating them 1-0 at MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja last Friday.
Nigeria then secured a spot at Paris 2024 at the expense of the reigning African champions after a 1-0 aggregate scoreline.
Waldrum, however, claimed that their defensive organization were instrumental to beating their rivals to the ticket.
“We were much more organised than the previous times we played them,” Waldrum said after the game.
“South Africa talked a lot before these two matches, we just kept quiet.
“That’s why I felt confident. I believe in our team and I knew we will be hard team to break down even with their talent.
“The thing we would then hope is that you finish off one or two of your opportunities to advance and that is what we did.”
Nigeria will slot into Group C at Paris 2024, joining Spain, Japan and Brazil.
This will be the fourth Olympics for the Super Falcons, the most of any African nation, and their first appearance since Beijing 2008.
