Ronald Koeman has revealed his aspiration to return to Barcelona, but only after the departure of current club president Joan Laporta.
Koeman, who led the team for 14 months from August 2020 to October 2021, was controversially dismissed by Laporta, who had openly stated his intention to replace the Dutch manager months in advance.
In subsequent years, Koeman has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with Laporta’s actions.
Recently, he stated that he would not pursue his dream of returning to Camp Nou until Laporta’s tenure ends.
“I have a dream to return to Barcelona, but it won’t be as a coach,” said Koeman, who is currently the head coach of the Netherlands national team. “I want to help players improve their technique.”
Koeman criticized the club’s management, saying, “The board works in a way that is not good. In recent years, Barca’s problem has been that [Lionel] Messi is out, that I am out, that Xavi is out… The best thing is to respect the club’s legends. That is much more important than competing for players like Nico Williams.”
Barcelona’s next presidential election is scheduled for 2026, and SPORT recently reported that Laporta is already contemplating another run.
Rumors suggest that Laporta plans to bolster his re-election campaign by targeting Manchester City stars Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez.
Interestingly, Koeman’s contract with the Netherlands runs until the summer of 2026, coinciding with the end of the World Cup.
