The report by the committee, established by Olukayode Egbetokun, acting Inspector General of Police, on the creation of the Special Intervention Squad and the removal of Police Mobile Force members from VIP escort/guard duty, has been turned in.
The IG had promised to implement the removal of Police Mobile Force soldiers from VIP escort/guard responsibilities during a meeting with Squadron Leaders and Tactical Commanders on June 26, 2023.
Additionally, he announced the formation of the Special Intervention Squad, which would have 40,000 highly-trained police officers as replacements, including chosen members of the Police Mobile Force.
The group, led by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), Adeleke Bode, was formed to examine and offer guidance on how these regulations might be effectively implemented.
The committee had delivered its findings, according to a statement released on Monday by the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, who also stated that the IG had pledged to evaluate and follow the committee’s recommendations.
“The acting Inspector General of Police received the much-anticipated committee report on the repositioning of the Police Mobile Force to strengthen internal security to wit the establishment of the Special Intervention Squad today, July 10, 2023, from the Chairman of the Committee and Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Bode.
