The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced a strategic redeployment of several Commissioners of Police, affecting key commands across Nigeria.
This move is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and streamline operations within the force.
In a significant reshuffle, CP Tunji Disu has been transferred from his position as the Rivers State Commissioner of Police to assume command of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
Meanwhile, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, previously leading the Delta State Police Command, has been reassigned to the Rivers State Command.
Taking over the Delta State Command is CP Peter Opara, who was recently appointed to the FCT command before this latest change.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement on Thursday detailing the reasons behind these redeployments.
He highlighted that the changes are intended to “ensure effective policing” in the respective states and reflect the Inspector-General’s commitment to deploying resources where they are most needed.
“The Inspector-General of Police in an effort to strategically emplace a Police Force well efficient for effective policing, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Commissioners of Police of Rivers State Command, Delta State Command, and the Federal Capital territory,” Adejobi stated.
He elaborated on the specific changes, noting, “The order covers the redeployment of the CP Rivers State Command, CP Olatunji Disu as the new CP FCT; CP Delta State Command, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi as the new CP Rivers State Command and CP FCT, CP Peter Opara as the new CP Delta State.”
Further adjustments include the appointment of four new Commissioners of Police for Lagos, Abia, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom States, with the approval of the Police Service Commission. CP Danladi Nda has been posted to the Abia State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale to Lagos, CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya, FDC, to Ebonyi, and CP Festus Eribo to Akwa Ibom.
These appointments, as Adejobi emphasized, are part of the IG’s broader mission to “strategically reposition the Police Force” for optimal performance and effective management of resources. He stated that the new postings aim to align the force with current security needs and to implement innovative approaches to policing.
“The posting of these strategic managers reflects the mission of the Inspector-General of Police to strategically reposition the Police Force and ensure maximum utilization of human resources available to the Force,” Adejobi noted.
Egbetokun also urged the newly appointed CPs to focus on innovation and diligence in their roles, emphasizing the importance of adhering to police reforms designed to address security challenges and contribute to the overall development of the nation.
“The IGP has, however, urged the new CPs of State Commands to ensure diligence in the discharge of their lawful duties and adopt innovations that could mitigate security challenges in their respective areas of responsibility,” Adejobi concluded.
He also encouraged them to actively engage in the police reform plans that aim to bolster the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and promote national growth.
