The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive for the immediate pursuit and apprehension of those behind the deadly explosion at the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of January 9, 2025, claimed the lives of two officers, Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, attributed the attack to suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Reacting strongly, the IG condemned the incident and vowed that those responsible for killing police officers would face justice.
Through a statement on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, conveyed the IG’s condolences to the families of the fallen officers, assuring them of the swift disbursement of their entitlements.
“In a resolute response to the recent explosion attack at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State, on 9th January, 2025, at about 12.10am, which led to the death of two police officers; Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the attack and ordered an immediate and thorough clampdown on the perpetrators as any cop-killers will go unpunished.
“The IGP expresses deep condolences to the families of the deceased officers, affirming that their sacrifice in the line of duty will not be forgotten, as their benefits and entitlements will be immediately paid to their families,” Adejobi stated.
The IG also directed AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, in charge of Zone 15, to deploy all necessary measures and collaborate with other security agencies to apprehend those involved.
“The IGP has therefore directed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc., to mobilize adequate resources and personnel, collaborate with other security agencies to ensure the perpetrators of this nefarious act are found and caused to face the full wrath of the law,” Adejobi added.
The Inspector-General reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property while emphasizing accountability for anyone threatening the nation’s security. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
