Gunmen in Imo State have killed eight security agents, including soldiers, policemen, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel.
According to The PUNCH, the attack occurred on Tuesday morning in Umualumaku community, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state, creating panic in the area.
The assailants ambushed a joint security taskforce team traveling in two security trucks and set the vehicles ablaze, resulting in the tragic deaths of all the security personnel who were burnt inside their operational vehicles.
A security operative, who preferred not to be named, confirmed the incident and mentioned that reinforcement teams have been dispatched to the scene of the crime with the aim of apprehending the suspects and recovering the bodies of the slain security personnel.
A community resident who did not want to expose his identity for security reasons said he observed the security agents a few minutes before they were set on fire.
He claimed that the development had thrown the community into disarray.
A video clip of the attack obtained by Journalists showed moment when the security agents set ablaze in the two vehicles.
The incident has been confirmed by
the spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye.
