The operatives of the Imo Sate Police Command have arrested three suspected vandals that has been terrorizing the entire Imo State University Teaching Hospital Nursery Primary, Orlu in the state.
This was made known in a statement issued in Owerri on Friday by the Imo State Police Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, noting that the suspected vandals had engaged in vandalising and looting the medical equipments and properties of the University most especially at night.
The arrest is followed the series of complaints of their criminal activities of vandalism and looting by residents of Orlu and management of the University Teaching Hospital.
He said that the DPO in charge of Orlu Divisional Headquarters alerted of the situation and strategically deployed his men on surveillance patrols which resulted in the apprehension of a 21-yrs-old Kelechukwu Nwode of Ukwuinyima in Ikwo Local Government Area in Ebonyi, who was caught in the very act of looting the Hospital properties while others took to their heels.
The PPRO said that in the course of the Police investigation, the suspect confessed to being a member of a notorious syndicate that specializes in vandalizing and looting the medical equipment and properties of IMSUTH.
It was learnt that the Police recovered some of the items looted at the house of the suspect when he took the determined Division’s detectives to the place.
The Police Spokesperson, said items recovered include: Tricycle, Large quantity of Copper Wire Sid big Iron Rod, one IMSUTH foam, ONE CYLINDER, One Generator, some Scrabs, one Air Condition Compressor and
ASP Okoye examined that the Police equally arrested two of the suspected vandal syndicates at large following the information given to them by the vandals arrested earlier.
The suspects identified as a 28-year-old Jeremiah Oliver from Ibiasoegbe in Oru-West Local Government Area and Paul Okeke 44yrs who hails from Umudara Amaifeke, Orlu LGA have been arraigned in court.
The Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde in his statement reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring maximum safety of the life and properties of the good people of the State.
He applauded the DPO of Orlu division for a job well done while he encourages Imolites not to relent in supporting the Police and other security agencies with credible and timely information that will assist the onslaught against criminality in the State.
