Deji Adeyanju, the lawyer representing Martins Otse, known widely on social media as VeryDarkMan, has confirmed that his client was granted bail under “very stringent” conditions following a court arraignment.
VeryDarkMan, a prominent social media critic and influencer, had been detained after reportedly honoring an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force over his use of a uniform resembling that of the police in a viral video, which authorities claim was unauthorized.
In an official post on Friday, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that VeryDarkMan was set to appear before a court through its Federal Capital Territory Command.
This action, according to the police, was due to allegations of impersonation tied to his appearance in the police-like uniform in the video.
Adeyanju, in a brief update on Facebook, shared that his client had faced arraignment and been granted bail, though with stringent terms.
He refrained from providing further specifics on the bail conditions, simply noting, “VDM arraigned, granted very stringent bail.”
Previously, VeryDarkMan had released a video where he revealed he had voluntarily gone to the police station to address the accusations and extended an apology to the Nigeria Police Force.
In an earlier statement, police headquarters expressed disapproval over the unauthorized use of its uniforms or insignia by any individual, calling it a punishable offense and stating its intent to hold VeryDarkMan accountable for the infraction.
