The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has called on the new Minister of State for Petroleum to enjoin the Federal Government to bring operators of the illegal refineries to be part of the solution instead of chasing them and destroying their groundwork.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Chairman of IPMAN, Enugu Depot Community in charge of Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu States, Mr Chinedu Anyaso, disclosed this in an interview on Tuesday in Awka while congratulating the newly inaugurated ministers.
Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri was recently appointed as the Hon. Minister of State, Oil, Petroleum Resources, while Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo is the Hon. Minister of State, Gas, Petroleum Resources.
Anyasi said, “The new Minister of State for Petroleum who is from the Niger Delta should encourage the government to bring operators of the illegal refineries in the creeks to the national grid.”
“Instead of chasing them and destroying their infrastructure, the government should call them to be part of the solution, at least in the short term while we wait for the main refineries to resume operations.
“This will reduce the pressure on foreign exchange.”
