A suicide bomber Agus Sujatno, in Indonesia has reportedly blown himself up in protest against the new criminal code which prohibit sex before marriage in the country.
According to Daily Mail, Sujatno entered police station in city of Bandung, West Java Province, on motorbike and detonated bomb, killing one other person and injuring 11 people.
PUNCH METRO had reported that the Indonesian Government is set to pass a law that will criminalise sex before marriage in the country.
The code, if passed, would apply to Indonesian citizens and foreigners alike, with business groups expressing concern about what damage the rules might have on Indonesia’s image as a holiday and investment destination.
In a latest development, Sujatno, 34, an Islamist militant and convicted bomb-maker who was released from prison last year, entered the police station in the city of Bandung on a motorbike and detonated a bomb as officers were lining up for morning assembly.
Detectives later found ‘dozens’ of white pieces of paper taped to the attacker’s motorbike protesting against the country’s controversial new criminal code that was passed on Tuesday.
A previous version of the code was scheduled to be adopted in 2019, but it was met with widespread opposition. At the time, tens of thousands of people protested a number of laws they believed would restrict civil liberties, particularly those that were seen as regulating morality and free speech.
