Inter Miami are bracing for a significant setback as Uruguay’s Luis Suarez will join his teammate and Argentine legend Lionel Messi at the Copa America this summer.
Following Messi’s inclusion in Argentina’s squad for the Copa America, scheduled to be held in the United States from June 20 to July 14, the 37-year-old Suarez has also been named in Marcelo Bielsa’s 26-man roster for the tournament, despite his persistent knee issues.
Inter Miami, currently leading Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference, will face a challenging period without Messi and Suarez for nearly a month.
Suarez has netted 12 goals and provided five assists this MLS season, while Messi has scored 12 times and assisted nine goals.
Their absence could significantly impact the club’s campaign.
Argentina will start their Copa America journey on June 20 against Canada and will also face Peru and Chile in their group.
In contrast, Uruguay will compete against host nation the United States, Panama, and Bolivia in their group.
Before the Copa America kicks off, Argentina will play a friendly against Ecuador on Sunday night, followed by a match against Guatemala on June 14.
Uruguay, however, will not see action until their tournament opener against Panama on June 23.
