Jake Paul’s postponed bout with Mike Tyson has been rescheduled for November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in the United States.
Initially set for July 20, the fight was delayed after the 57-year-old Tyson experienced a medical emergency on a cross-country flight on May 26.
This highly anticipated event will now coincide with the rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, also scheduled for November 15 at the Dallas Cowboys’ home field.
“Although we had to postpone the fight, I will resume training shortly,” Tyson stated. “I am thankful to the medical staff that treated me and to [Most Valuable Promotions], Netflix, and AT&T Stadium for working diligently to find the best reschedule date for all parties.
“While we have a new date, the result will be the same no matter when we fight,” he added. “Jake Paul is getting knocked out. On Friday, November 15, watch this in-person at AT&T Stadium or live on Netflix.”
The new date is somewhat surprising given previous speculation that the fight might be canceled.
Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix expressed concern about Tyson’s ability to face Paul following his medical issue, which has been described as an ‘ulcer issue’.
“Mike Tyson is 57 years old; he’s almost 58 years old,” Mannix said on ‘The Rich Eisen’ show, discussing the former heavyweight champion’s health problems.
“They’re saying it’s a minor ulcer issue, but I don’t think anything’s minor at that stage of your life, especially when it comes to putting yourself in the proper shape to fight a professional boxing match.”
MVP, Paul’s promotion, has announced that tickets for the original date will be honoured for the new one, and refunds are available for those who cannot attend.
Tyson’s ulcer flare-up occurred on an American Airlines flight from Miami to LA on May 26, prompting flight staff to seek medical assistance from passengers.
Despite Tyson’s claims of doing “great” in recovery, he was not fit enough for the July 20 fight.
Paul, a natural cruiserweight with a 9-1 record, has faced criticism for his choice of opponents, including former NBA star Nate Robinson and MMA fighters like Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz.
His record against natural boxers stands at 2-1, including a 2023 loss to Tommy Fury.
While Paul hopes to validate his boxing career by fighting Tyson, the challenge is convincing the boxing community, considering Tyson’s retirement in 2005 and his 1-3 record in his last four fights.
