The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced that, starting from 2024, candidates sitting for its Direct Entry examination will be required to undergo cognitive and verbal reasoning tests.
This directive was reiterated by the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, during a virtual meeting with Commissioners of Education from the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
Oloyede reiterated that JAMB will administer an Aptitude Test for Direct Entry candidates.
According to him, the test aims to evaluate their academic potential, career suitability, and mental or physical capabilities, as mentioned in a special bulletin released by the Board on Monday.
A special bulletin published by the Board on Monday quoted Oloyede to have said that “As from 2024, JAMB will conduct Aptitude Test for all Direct Entry candidates to assess their academic potential or career suitability, as well as their mental or physical capacity.”
The JAMB boss noted that “It is an intelligent test that will measure the candidate’s current cognitive skills and will not be the usual subjects such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Government, Physics, etc.”
The aptitude test, as detailed by the Registrar, will encompass various components: Verbal, Abstract, Mechanical and Numeric Reasoning, Data Checking, and Work Sampling.
Furthermore, the Registrar conveyed that the registration for Direct Entry will be limited to JAMB Offices across the country.
He emphasized that during the registration process, all Direct Entry candidates must furnish specific information, including the Registration/Matriculation Number from their previous school where the qualification was obtained, the subjects of qualification, the Awarding Institution, Institution attended, Year of graduation, and submission of admission letters where applicable.
