Japan has issued a serious tsunami warning after a powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit the central region.
According to The BBC, residents in Ishikawa prefecture’s coastal Noto area were urgently instructed by national broadcaster NHK to “evacuate immediately to higher ground.”
NHK reported that waves towering up to 5 meters have already reached Noto.
Additionally, authorities have extended tsunami warnings to neighboring Niigata and Toyama prefectures, cautioning that waves there could surge as high as 3 meters.
