The magistrate court in Dutse, Jigawa State, on Friday ordered the detention of protesters for two weeks.
Magistrate Auwalu Sani directed that Umar Danjani, who is suspected of leading violent protests, be held at Birnin Kudu Prison during this period.
The initially peaceful protest in Jigawa escalated into violence, leading to the deaths of two individuals, numerous injuries, and extensive damage as buildings were set on fire and properties worth millions of Naira were looted.
The unrest caused significant disruption across the state.
In response to the violence, the Police Command has detained sixty-eight individuals involved in the End Bad Governance protests in various local government areas, including Dutse, Kiyawa, Kazaure, and Babura.
Additionally, the police have recovered forty-nine bags of looted fertilizer, fifteen bundles of mosquito nets, and other valuable items.
