Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has announced the passing of his mother, Hajiya Maryam Namadi Umar, an event that has left the state and beyond in deep mourning.
A statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Hamisu Gumel, confirmed that Hajiya Maryam died in the early hours of Wednesday.
Her demise coincides with the governor’s official visit to China, where he is working to strengthen economic ties and attract investments to the state.
Namadi expressed profound sorrow at the loss and gratitude for the outpouring of support, even as his absence from the country casts uncertainty over his attendance at her burial.
According to the statement, “The burial rites will take place today at 4:30 pm in her hometown of Kafin Hausa, in accordance with Islamic traditions.”
The governor and his family have appealed for prayers for the eternal rest of Hajiya Maryam’s soul.
