Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, has suspended his Special Adviser on Salary and Pensions, Alhaji Bashir Ado, following an alleged premature announcement concerning the approval of a N70,000 minimum wage for workers in the state.
This development was disclosed through a statement issued on Saturday by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, in Dutse, the state capital.
The statement said the state government expressed deep concern over a media report claiming that the governor had already approved the N70,000 minimum wage.
Ibrahim noted that the claim was both “embarrassing and premature,” especially as the committee led by the Head of the State Civil Service—tasked with making recommendations on the new wage structure—had not yet concluded its work or submitted a formal report.
“As a result of this development, the governor has approved the immediate suspension of Ado, pending findings of a committee set up under the chairmanship of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Bello Abdulkadir,” Ibrahim said.
He emphasized that the state government remained committed to a transparent process in its wage deliberations.
The SSG further revealed that the investigative committee, which has been given a two-week deadline to submit its findings, will probe the origin of the statement, verify its content, and assess the motive behind the premature announcement.
In addition to the Attorney-General, the committee includes the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa; the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad; and the Permanent Secretary of Establishment and Service Matters in the Office of the SSG, Muhammad Hahaha.
The inclusion of senior government officials underscores the seriousness with which the administration is addressing the issue.
