The Police Command in Jigawa State has reported that a mother and her two children narrowly escaped death on Monday when a vehicle crashed into their living room in Dutse.
The incident, which took place around midnight, was confirmed in a statement by the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu.
According to Shiisu, the crash occurred on Elpies Street and involved two men, Muhammad Galadima, 32, and Abdullahi Abubakar, 41, who drove a Toyota Corolla with registration number NSR 120 BC into the residential building.
“Information about the incident at Elpies Street Mobile Quarters in Dutse was received at about 12.30am,” Shiisu said.
The impact of the crash caused the vehicle and the house to catch fire, which spread to three neighboring buildings, reducing them to ashes.
“A team of policemen rushed to the scene upon receiving the report and evacuated the victims to a nearby hospital,” he added.
Shiisu disclosed that firefighters, with the help of local residents, managed to extinguish the fire.
Meanwhile, the suspects and their vehicle have been detained for further investigation, with plans to charge them in court.
