Former AS Roma head coach and a two-time Champions League winner, Jose Mourinho, will take the helm at Turkish club Fenerbahce, as he announced on Saturday.
The Portuguese coach, renowned for his Champions League victories with Porto and Inter Milan, has been without a coaching job since his dismissal from Serie A club Roma in January.
Mourinho, who has also managed top clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Real Madrid, made the announcement while serving as a pundit for TNT Sports at the Champions League final at Wembley.
“Good evening Fenerbahce fans, see you tomorrow at Kadikoy (the Istanbul suburb where the club is based) and let’s start our journey together,” Mourinho shared on his new club’s X account.
According to reports from Turkey’s NTV television station, Mourinho’s appointment is expected to be formalized on Sunday.
Speculations indicated that Mourinho will sign a two-year contract with Fenerbahce, one of the three major Istanbul teams that haven’t secured a domestic league title in a decade.
Mourinho’s tenure at Roma ended after two-and-a-half years, with the team languishing in ninth place.
During his time there, he led Roma to victory in the inaugural Europa Conference League in 2022 and to the final of the previous season’s Europa League.
