The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Congress, Peter Obi, has reacted to the defeat of Nigerian fighters, Kamaru Usman and Anthony Joshua.
In a statement released days after the fights, the former Anambra governor admitted that bother Nigerians gave their best despite the defeats.
Usman ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’, lost his UFC Welterweight champion title to Leon Edwards, hours after Joshua lost his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk by split decision.
Usman, 35, was on his way to making the sixth defence of his 170lb title against Edwards after being up on the judges’ scorecards heading into the final round of the fight.
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ was in control of the fifth round and seemed to be cruising his way to a decision win, but Edwards landed a perfect head kick that rendered him unconscious as he suffered his first-ever UFC defeat.
In another match, Ukrainian fighter, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Anthony Joshua in a rematch to win the WBO, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles.

Reacting to the defeat of the Nigerian-born fighters, Peter Obi, congratulated both fighters while also praising their resilient spirit.
In a tweet via his official Twitter page, he said, “I congratulate our own Anthony Joshua and Kamaru Usman for putting up such a brave fight against Oleksandr Usyk and Leon Edwards. Your spirit of courage, resilience and strength manifested in you throughout the match.
“The aim is not to win every battle, but to go all in and give in your very best. You gave your best dear Anthony and Kamaru, we celebrate you people always. I wish you more resounding success in your future engagements.”
