Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has terminated the appointment of all 44 caretaker chairmen across the state’s local government areas, with immediate effect.
This decision was announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.
“This dissolution applies to all chairmen, vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors,” Yusuf said.
The dissolution comes just a week after the Kano State House of Assembly extended the tenure of the caretaker officials by an additional two months, following an initial term that was supposed to end on September 8.
The Assembly had argued that the extension was necessary to maintain stability and continuity in local governance.
Local government elections are scheduled for October 26, and the governor has directed the affected officials to hand over their responsibilities to their respective Directors of Personnel Management.
This directive includes all chairmen, vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors in the 44 local government areas.
Yusuf expressed his appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service, acknowledging their efforts in driving development in their respective localities.
He also hinted at the possibility of future engagements, suggesting that the contribution of these officials may still be needed down the line.
