Forty-three inmates serving various jail terms have been pardoned by the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
On Friday, in honor of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, Ganduje granted the convicts of the Goron Dutse prison a pardon.
Ganduje, through his deputy Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, stated that his administration had released 4,013 convicts from prison and paid out N4,949,000 in penalties and compensation to the released detainees.
Following their release from jail, Governor Ganduje has tasked the pardoned inmates with demonstrating excellent moral character to the general public.
The state controller of the penal service, Suleiman Inuwa said the move will help reduce crowding and promote calm inside the prisons.
