Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commenced maternity health services in all the hospitals spread across the state.
According to The PUNCH, the governor made this known while receiving the Deputy Minister of Health from Ghana, Alhaji Mahama Seini, who was on a working visit to Kano, on Monday.
The Governor said he met the sector in a total mess, with many hospitals running without essential drugs.
“When we came in, the first thing we did was to embark on the total renovation of the State General Hospitals, while we completely rebuilt them to create a conducive atmosphere for effective healthcare delivery in the state,” he said.
Yusuf hinted that in order to address the anomalies, specifically on maternity healthcare delivery, the government has commenced free maternity health services in all the hospitals spread across the state, adding that the state government has ordered the total renovation of all the state 44 local government Primary Health facilities.
Commenting on Nigeria’s age-long ties with Ghana, the Deputy Ghanaian Health Minister, Seini said, “Nigeria and Ghana have rich traditional similarities, which is a clear demonstration of brotherhood, existing for decades.”
Yusuf expressed his readiness to partner with Ghana in the areas of health care delivery services, infrastructure and Education.
“Since assumption, we have had been working assiduously in ensuring effective service delivery in the health sector.
“Our administration had since assumption provided free maternal healthcare to pregnant women, renovation of hospitals in the state and would soon embark on general rehabilitation of all the general hospitals in the state,” the Governor stated.
