A 25-year-old suspect identified as Abba Ibrahim has been arrested by the Kano State Police Command for allegedly stabbing 22-year-old Zaharadeen Iliyasi in the neck with a knife, causing his death.
According to The PUNCH, this was according to a statement on Monday by the spokesperson for the command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa.
According to the statement, on receiving information about the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gumel, ordered all entry and exit points in the state blocked to prevent the suspect from fleeing.
The statement read “On March 29, 2024, at about 10:30 pm, a distress call was received reporting a disagreement between two friends at Chiranci Dorayi Quarters Kano, where one Abba Garba Ibrahim, 25 years old, popularly known as ‘Dan ‘Kuda’ used a knife and stabbed one Zaharaddeen Iliyasu, 22 years old, ‘m’, of same address on his neck.
“As a result, Illiyasu fell in a pool of his blood.
“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Gumel, ordered the immediate cordoning off of the entry and exit points of the state to prevent escape and directed the deployment of police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Panshekara Division, CSP Ya’u Sadiq Abdu, to the scene.
“On arrival at the scene, Zaharadeen Iliyasu was rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano where a medical doctor on duty certified the body dead, while the suspect, Abba Garba Ibrahim, was arrested while attempting to escape to the Niger Republic.
“The situation was immediately brought under control, and the suspect was transferred to the command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section for discrete investigation.
“On preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to having singlehandedly committed the act under the influence of intoxicating drugs.
“The Commissioner of Police assured residents of diligent investigation and prosecution. He also called on the good people of the state to continue to cooperate with the police and give all necessary support.”
