Kano State Police Command has issued a stern warning to the miscreants regarding potential threats from certain groups and individuals intending to disrupt public peace amid the ongoing Emirship tussle.
The State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, revealed this during a press briefing on Sunday, citing credible intelligence indicating plans to stage protests that could escalate into violent confrontations.
The areas of particular concern include the state House of Assembly Complex, Kofar Nasarawa, Iyaka Road, Kofar Naisa, Brigade, Airport Road, Janbulo, and Sani Mainenge areas.
“We have received credible information about miscreants trying to unleash terror at locations, particularly the House of Assembly and other key places within the state. It has been verified by so many sources.
“Anybody who wants to test the ground, the security has the capacity to deal with the miscreants. We have perfected plans to embark on serious patrols and detection on locations where we are informed the miscreants are hiding,” he stated.
In recent days, Kano State has witnessed a wave of protests, with supporters of the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, taking to the streets in various emirates.
These protests occurred in Rano, Bichi, Karaye, Kano, and Gaya. Bayero was deposed by Governor Abba Yusuf following the signing of a new law that repealed the Emirate Council Law 2019.
This 2019 legislation had divided the Kano emirate into five jurisdictions and provided the basis for the removal of Muhammadu Sanusi in 2020.
However, the governor reversed course on Thursday, sacking the Emirs and reinstating Sanusi, which has led to unrest in some parts of the state.
