At least 21 kidnap victims, including 15 women and six children, were freed by Katsina State police on Friday in the Dutsinma Local Government Area.
The victims were saved after the Police Command received a distress call reporting that terrorists had assaulted the villages of Buraji and Sabon Sara while riding motorbikes and firing AK-47 rifles intermittently.
The Area Commander for Dutsinma, ACP Mohammad Makam, led a group of Police Tactical Units to block the suspects’ escape routes near Gandun Sarki hamlet, where they fought them in a bloody gunfight and eventually managed to rescue all the victims.
In a statement, the police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, said that numerous terrorists were shot to death and that some others managed to flee the scene wounded.
He continued by saying that tactical forces are still searching the area in an effort to find their dead bodies and apprehend the terrorists who were injured.
